Rurouni Kenshin

Description:

During the Meiji Restoration, an infamous assassin called Hitoriki Battousai was part of a reformist group, the Ishin Shishi. However, the group dissipated and the assassin was assumed dead. The Battousai was not dead, however, simply wandering; seeking retribution perhaps. His weapon is now a reverse-blade sword, a katana made with the blade on the back edge; he has sworn an oath never to kill again. An oath that is tested throughout the series. Created by Watsuki Nobuhiro, the original manga began running in Weekly (Shonen) Jump in 1994. Although only a few volumes were originally intended, its popularity quickly changed that. The manga was then made into an anime series, which began airing in Japan in 1997. Although the series includes a whopping 95 episodes, it doesn't manage to cover everything from the 28 manga volumes. Genres such as action, comedy, romance, and history are all clearly expressed, and each character is developed in detail. The OVAs, known as Samurai X, which show what happened before and after the series, are highly regarded as some of the best anime OVAs of all time.
